Originally from Peachtree City, Georgia where there aren’t actually any peach trees but plenty of golf carts and swamps. My dad worked at Atlantic Steel and my mom sewed clothes from home while raising three girls. I didn’t grow up on a farm nor did we have a vegetable garden. Instead we cherished the shade the tall pines and poplars and dogwoods gave our home and yard. My mom spent years converting our quarter acre suburban lot to an enchanting garden where we could watch cardinals, catch Praying Mantis, and listen to thunderstorms. I learned from her to watch as different plants bloomed with each passing month and would anticipate the return of the jack-in-the-pulpit each year. Our family of five frequented a nearby farm stand where we would buy fresh produce in summer. I especially remember the large, warm tomatoes we ate with dollops of mayonnaise- still a personal favorite.

Years later, I’d move to Bellingham, Washington and worked as a farm hand at Cedarville Farm. For six seasons, I learned how to propagate, transplant and care for crops using organic farming practices. I learned to harvest proficiently and how to move my body more efficiently. A few years running a gleaning program and growing crops for the Bellingham food bank paved my way into starting this farm endeavor. We’re leasing a small plot at an incubator site called Viva Farms where crops for the CSA and farmers market are grown. I’m thankful for the mentors in my life and the support of you all. Pass the salad, lets eat!
